The European Commission decided last month to reduce the €2.7 billion ($2.9 billion) in budget cuts to Horizon 2020 that were previously planned to €500 million. The budgets of the European Research Council, the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions and the “widening participation” program will be preserved. The EU Budget Commissioner, Kristalina Georgieva, indicated that budget cuts to other Horizon 2020 programs, such as the European Institute of Innovation & Technology, might also be adjusted.
