Analytical Instrument Index

Sales for the IBO Analytical Instrument Index, which is comprised primarily of broad-based global analytical instrument businesses, declined 2.2% to $3,578 million. Excluding currency headwinds of 4.4%, Index sales grew 2.2%, driven by sales of LC and LC/MS, as well as demand from pharmaceutical and biopharma customers for Agilent and Waters. Demand for materials characterization products from environmental and industrial markets for PerkinElmer’s Environmental Health segment also contributed to growth. Within Thermo’s Analytical Technologies segment, strong demand for chromatography products was mostly offset by lower MS sales and weak core industrial demand. Chromatography demand was also strong for Shimadzu’s Analytical and Measuring Instrument division but was offset by weak demand for surface analyzers, and lower Japanese sales.
